Anna Bjerger
Swedish artist Bjerger collects photographic snapshots from curio shops, images that are full of memories and traces of lives lived and yet remain both anonymous and accessible through their familiarity. By painting these images and identifying specific areas within them, these contradictions are amplified and their peculiarity invites a rereading of the lost histories of others. The descriptive use of paint jars with the small scale and throwaway nature of the image, the clusters of images creating new dialogues and relationships. The paintings resonate with a sense of sadness, closeness and loss.
